Instructional Ideas

  1. For independent reading time, teachers can have students peruse this app’s content and select a book. Next, teachers can have students read the book during silent sustained reading (SSR) time in class. To hold students accountable, teachers can have students write a summary of what they read in the UX Write, Office Offline, or WPS Office app. That way, teachers will have a record of what students read during SSR. Plus, students will have a summary of the book once they have completed it.
  2. Instead of providing students with a hardcopy class set of books, teachers can teach a book that is downloadable from this app.
  3. While teaching a specific literary or historical period, teachers can have students search this app for a book from that period. Next, teachers can have students read and research the book. Finally, teachers can have students present the book to their classmates. The presentations can be made in class or created using by the Adobe Voice, Educreations, 30Hands, or TouchCast app, which allows presentations to be linked or uploaded to a class website. The presentations can include: (1) a summary of the book, (2) background information about the context of when the book was written, (3) biographical information about the author, and (4) information about the book’s legacy.
  4. When studying a specific literary period, teachers can teach one primary text from that period in class and have students read an additional text from that period found in this app. After reading the text, students can compose a short essay that: (1) compares the text read in class to the text read independently, (2) explain how both texts share a common theme, and (3) explain the connection between the text and the literary period.
