Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can have students play a game of “Name that Chord or Scale” using this app. To do so, the teacher or a student would play a chord on the piano three times. Students then would use this app to help them identify the chord or scale played. The first student to identify the chord or scale correctly wins, and that student gets to play the next chord or scale.
  2. Students can select a chord or scale to play on the piano. Next, students will play the chord or scale on this app so they can hear it. After having the app play it 3-5 times, students will play it on the piano. Once they think they played it successfully three times in a row, students will play it once again using the app and then once again on the piano. If they are sure they are correct, students can play it for their teacher or classmate to confirm.
  3. After students become familiar with the different chords and scales in this app, they can engage in an “Identify the Note” using the Circle of Fifth Chart. To do so, a device must be connected to project and show the Circle of Fifth chart. Next, the teacher or a student will play a note three times, and the other students must identify the note correctly. The teacher will call on a student who raised his/her hand first to indicate that the student knows the note, and that student must come up and tap the note on the Circle of Fifth chart. If correct, that student gets to play the next note.
  4. Teachers can assign multiple students different musical instruments to play, with this app being one of them. Students can then practice a song and play it using the different digital instruments.
