Aligning America – App Lesson

Description: This app lesson will develop elementary students’ knowledge on the battles of the Revolutionary War and the rise of the American Government.

Instructional Objective: Students will learn about the important events and laws of the American Revolution in chronological order. Students will also learn about the important figures of the Revolution and the geography of the 13 colonies.

Step 1: Students will watch a short video in class quickly explaining the Revolutionary War and students will then read about all the main battles of the Revolutionary War using the Revolutionary War app.

Step 2: Students will then use the U.S Constitution and Facts app to compare the Articles of Confederation and the U.S Constitution. They will take notes on a piece of paper explaining what makes the two similar and different.

Step 3: Students will use the US President app to review information on George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. Students will take notes on how these four presidents played a role in creating America.

Step 4: Students will then use iThoughts HD to create a timeline starting from the major battles of the Revolutionary War and then ending right before the Westward Expansion. Students must include in the timeline all the dates and battles of the Revolutionary War, the date the Articles of Confederation and Constitution were signed, and the year each of the four main presidents they researched on the US Presidents app were elected president.
