Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can assign students a 7-minute workout to complete as a warm-up for class. As an extension to this activity, once students are familiar with the app, teachers can have each student or pairs of students design their own 7-minute workout. Finally, teachers can have the students who designed the workout lead their classmates through it as the warm-up.
- Teachers can design a circuit workout using this app. To do so, teachers can divide their classroom into five areas and their class into groups of five students. At each station, teachers can have an iPad open to this app with a specific exercise. When the teacher says, “Start,” students are to begin doing that exercise and continue doing so until the teacher says, “Stop and rotate.” At this point, students are to rotate to the next station and repeat the process.
- Teachers can assign students an assignment to create their own 7-minute workout with the “Make Your Own 7-Minute Workout” function. Students can record their workout via their tablet’s camera and edit the footage in iMovie or TouchCast as a way to present their workout to the class. The videos can be uploaded to a class website for sharing.
- Students can review the exercises listed in this app. Next, they can create a “Top 5 Favorite” exercise list. Finally, students can write a rationale that explains why they chose the exercises they did.
- Teachers can have students study the exercises in this app and which body parts the exercises strengthen. Next, teachers can ask students which exercises would strengthen a specific body part (e.g., bicep, hamstring, abdominals), and students would respond by naming the exercise, demonstrating it, and explaining how and why the exercise strengthens that body part.
