Description: This app lesson will develop middle school students’ understanding and give them a virtual representation of the events that happen due to plate tectonics which can cause earthquakes and other geological hazards.
Instructional Objective: Students will investigate an earthquake event that occurred within the last 30 days, explore the effects of the earthquake on the selected region, and create a virtual presentation on the information they found and share it to the class.
Step 1: Students will use Earthquake Lite to explore, choose, and investigate an earthquake event with a magnitude of M 3.0 that occurred around the globe within the last 30 days.
Step 2: Students will use Earthquake Simulator 2D to design and illustrate structures and buildings in regions in which the chosen earthquake occurred. With the information found from using Earthquake Lite, the students will build a model of the power of the earthquakes magnitude in Earthquake Simulator 2D.
Step 3: Students will build a video slideshow presentation to share the information they gathered on their chosen earthquake using the Adobe Voice – Show Your Story app. In the presentation, students will explain the damage that happened to the region, any deaths that occurred, the type of earthquake that occurred in the region, and what steps were taken to aid the destruction (if any) to the region.
