Instructional Ideas

  1. After reading a text, teachers can have students select the most important word from the text and make an acrostic poem with this website about the word using information from the text. Students can save their poem and share it in a small group.
  2. When learning new vocabulary words, teachers can assign each student in the class a different word. Students will then use this website to create an acrostic poem about their word. Students can print their poems and hang them on a classroom wall. The teacher can call the class over to the poems hung on the wall, and the students can present/share their work.
  3. After learning about a person, event, or topic, teachers can have students create acrostic poems about it. Students will all create an acrostic poem for the same word. After creating the poems, teachers can have students share their poems in small groups, and students can discuss the similarities and differences of their poems.
  4. For an activity to open the school year, teachers can have students create acrostic poems using this app for their name. Once complete, students can share their poems and teachers can then hang them in the classroom.
