allPolitics: A News Resource for Social Studies
Summary : All the Politics You Need!
all Politics consists of news articles dedicated to the politics and the presidential election. From the app’s main page, users can browse articles by categories that include: Political Headlines, Left, Right, Live Discussions, Breaking News, World News, and US News. When users tap a category of interest, they will be taken to a new screen that shows a variety of articles available to them that are related to the category they selected. Users must then tap an article to read it, and they can tap the “Upload” button to share it over email and social media.
- Teachers can open class by having students read the same article in this app and then discuss it. To facilitate the discussion, teachers can ask questions such as: (1) What did you agree or disagree with in this article?, (2) How relevant is this article to you, as a citizen?, and (3) If you could send the author one comment about the article, what would you like to say? Students can respond orally or in writing.
- Teachers can have students read an article in this app and summarize it using an Office app.
- Teachers can use this app to launch a research project. To do so, students can peruse this app’s content to find a topic that interests. Students can then email their teacher the article, an explanation for their interest in the topic discussed by the article, and their plan for how they will research the article further. The teacher can review the materials and then offer approval for the research plan or ideas for revision.
- Students can self-select a topic of interest and use this app to find articles directly related to the topic. Students can then use an Office app to create an annotated bibliography about the topic by summarizing the article and added an MLA citation for it. Teachers can select the amount of entries needed to the annotated bibliography.
- Teachers can assign students an article to read in this app. Next, after reading and discussing the article, teachers can have students conduct online research to find a primary resource that supports the topic discussed in the article.
