Apps for the Common Core: A Best App for Literacy and Numeracy Teachers
Summary : Help selecting apps for Common Core!
Apps For Common Core is a collection of user-suggested apps for each of the Common Core standards for every grade. When users first login to Apps For Common Core, they select either a grade level (K–12) or a subject (Math or Language Arts). When users select a grade level, they are asked to select a subject, and the subjects are broken into sub-categories. The sub-categories are the different strands of the Common Core standards. Users select one of the sub-categories and the standard’s learning objectives are displayed along with user-suggested apps, which support the teaching of that particular standard. If users want to suggest an app for a standard, they select the “Share An App” button on the standard’s screen, type the app’s name into a search box they wish to share, and then select it.
Please note: At the time of this review, a limited number of apps have been suggested by users.
Classroom Applications
- Teachers can choose a grade level and subject. Next, they can select a suggested app. Teachers can then download the app and utilize it in the classroom.
- To help increase the amount of apps listed, teachers can suggest different apps that match with specific standards.
- When using this app, teachers can cross-reference it with LiteacyTA (http://www.literacyta.com/). This will help teachers attach the different apps to learning activities aligned to the Common Core.
- By using this app, teachers can find two apps that cater to different types of learners. These apps then can become the foundation for a differentiated learning experience for students. Important in these lessons are that teachers select the differentiated apps for their students, or at least ensure the app that students select matches their learning style.
