Band Bio

Band Bio provides users with a brief biography of any band. To use Band Bio, users must play a song using music loaded to their iPad. Next, users need to open the Band Bio app, and the Band Bio app will immediately pull up a short biography and a picture of the singer or band. Then, when ready, users can play a different song on their iPad, and a biography for that new singer or band will replace the previous one. If users want additional information, they can tap the “last.fm” button on the top-right of the screen, and a more detailed biography of the band or singer will appear. Users can share the biography using email or by posting it to Facebook.

Instructional Ideas

1. Teachers can assign students to research a singer or band, and the information provided by this app offers students a good place to begin their research.
2. As a review for an upcoming music test, teachers must first connect their iPad to a projector and sound system. Next, teachers can play a piece of music students are to identify by ear. After students have attempted to identify the song and singer/band, teachers can tell students the name of the song and project the biography to help students review.
3. When studying a singer or band, students can listen to the music produced by the singer or band and read their biography using this app. Next, students can conduct an Internet search using Google or Bing to find more information about the singer or band. Students can then compare the information reported to them by this app and other websites as a credibility check.
4. After studying a singer or band, students can conduct an Internet search for more information about the singer or band. Once they collect additional information, students can use that information to compose a more detailed biography of the singer or band using Pages, CloudOn, or Quick Office. Students can then publish the new biographies they wrote to a class website or email them to their teacher.
