Book Creator Free: A Best App for All Classrooms

Book Creator Free allows users to make one book at no cost. With Book Creator Free, users first select their book’s page size (e.g., Portrait, Square, or Landscape). From there, users begin adding pages and inserting images, text, and sounds to communicate a message or tell a story. Once satisfied with their book, users can share it by printing it, emailing it, opening it in another app, or sending it to iTunes.
- Teachers can have students create alternative research papers using this app. Instead of a traditional essay, teachers can have students research a topic and tell a story about it. For example, Science teachers can have students tell the story of what food experiences as it goes through the human body. Art, Music, and History teachers can have students create biographies of significant individuals. Math teachers can have students create instructional manuals for how to solve different types of problems.
- Teachers can have students create informational books that explain different subject-area topics. Additionally, students can create reading-comprehension quizzes to accompany these books. Teachers can post these books and quizzes to a class website to share the books and quizzes.
- As a summative assessment, teachers can have students create books that are portfolios of exemplary work they completed during a unit. Teachers can use the Rubrics Cubed app to make assessment rubrics for these portfolios.
- As a “Get-to-Know-Each-Other” activity at the beginning of the year, teachers and students can all create autobiographies of themselves. Some topics to include in the autobiographies are information about their hometowns, personal interests, family and friends, goals, and involvement in different organizations (e.g., clubs, sports, volunteer groups).
