Chartkeeper supports users in taking and tracking student attendance and behavior. After registering with the app and selecting security settings, users must first create a class by tapping the drop-down button on the top left of the screen. Here, users can tap the “Add a Section” button, enter the name of their class, and then tap the “Save” button. Next, users can add students by tapping the student icon on the top right of the screen, selecting the student’s gender, and entering the student’s name. This action will create an icon for the student. Once all students are added to a class, users can arrange them into a seating chart by dragging their icons. Users can tap the “Take Attendance” tab to record which students were present, absent, and tardy. Users can tap the “Record Observations” tab and then a student’s icon to note student behavior. Finally, users can tap the “Move Students” to rearrange students on the chart. Chartkeeper will automatically save the student attendance and notes entered into it, and users can reset this information by tapping the “Gear” button and selecting the “Reset Counters” option.
Classroom Applications
- Teachers can take daily attendance using this app. To do so, teachers must tap the “Take Attendance” tab. If the student is present, they do not tap his or her icon. If the student is absent, they tap his or her icon once. If the student is tardy, they tap his or her icon twice.
- Teachers can note both positive and negative student behavior using this app. To do so, teachers must tap the “Record Observations” icon. Next, teachers must tap a student’s icon and then choose the applicable option as related to the note that they wish to enter. By entering this information, teachers will be able to document behavior, which can be shared during teacher-parent conferences.
- When preparing for the first day of school, teachers can create their classes in this app and enter their students into the corresponding classes. Next, they can arrange the students into a seating chart. Finally, on the first day of school, teachers can connect their iPad to a projector to show students where they are to sit.
