Instructional Ideas

  1. Students can take practice quizzes to study for an upcoming assessment on the Periodic Elements.
  2. With their class, teachers can connect their iPad to a projector and take a quiz. For each question, teachers can ask their students what the correct answer is. As students respond, teachers can ask: (1) What makes you think that is the correct answer?, (2) Would another option be a better answer?, and (3) What else do you know about that element? Teachers can use these prompts to springboard the activity from just completing a quiz using this app to facilitating a conversation about the different elements.
  3. Once students understand the types of questions asked by this app, teachers can assign groups of students specific Periodic Elements and have them create a quiz about the elements using an Assessment app. The groups of students will have to research each element to create their questions and answers. Once complete, students can send their teacher a copy of the quiz, and the teacher can post it to a class website. At this point, other students can take the different quizzes to learn about the elements.
