Clicker Books offers an easy-to-use, book-creation template for users of all ages. Users can include and arrange titles, pictures, text, and sounds several ways into their Clicker Books. The pages can be customized by layout and design, and both the text and page itself can be any color combination users desire. As with other Clicker apps, Clicker Books reads individual words when users select the SoundShift button, or entire sentences when users punctuate them. Clicker Books also allows users to choose specific words by presenting them a “word collection” that assists them with choosing and spelling the perfect word when writing. Plus, users can even record themselves reading, and input those files as interactive icons into their books or add custom illustrations using the drawing and shape tool features. Once users complete a book, they can print it, email it, save it as a PDF, or share it via Dropbox.

Instructional Ideas

  1. With the support of a teacher, students can create a book that highlights the life and characteristics of a certain animal. Using the picture functions, students can import pictures of the animal, its habitat, and the food(s) it eats. Using the title and text functions, students can write about the animal, and they can use Clicker Books’ word bank option for support while doing so. When students are finished, they can share their book by saving it as a PDF, emailing it, printing it, or uploading it to Dropbox.
  2. Students can independently create a book about themselves. Students can input text and images about their lives, interests, family, friends, and favorite activities. Then, students can upload a picture of themselves and place it on the cover to create “The Book of Me.” Finally, students can record themselves reading their book using the audio function.
  3. As a class, the teacher can project the Clicker Books app on a projector. Classmates can then collaborate in small groups on different pages of the book to describe a topic students learned or a process/activity students completed. Students can collaborate and brainstorm ideas for the book with their teacher, who facilitates these ideas using class discussion. Once the book is completed, the teacher can share it with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders by printing it out, emailing it, saving it as a PDF, or uploading it to Dropbox.
