Instructional Ideas

  1. For a word-study lesson, teachers can connect their iPad to a projector and show students the different words in a category. After each word, teachers can ask students to: (1) use the word in a sentence, (2) explain where they have seen the word before, or (3) define the word.
  2. Teachers can assign students a spelling word list using this app. To do so, teachers can tell students and their parents which category and/or words will be included in the weekly spelling quiz. That way, parents and students can practice their spelling words at home in preparing for the quiz.
  3. When learning a spelling word, teachers can have students view an entry. Next, they can discuss the image connected to the word in the entry. Discussion prompts include: (1) How does the image represent the word? (2) What about the image makes you think of the word? (3) If you were going to represent this word with a different image, what would that image be? After the discussion, teachers can have students draw a new picture that represents the word.
