Instructional Ideas

  1. To supplement viewing Cosmos episodes in class, teachers can use the Cosmos app to introduce a particular episode or specific content to the class as an attention-grabber.
  2. Teachers can assign students a Fast Facts quote to explain or analyze as an engine starter/do-now activity. The explanation can take the form of a journal or PowerPoint Slide.
  3. In response to an article in the Galaxy Guide section, teachers can assign students a writing task. This task can require students to explain the significance of the article or any critiques they have of it.
  4. Students can create a biography of an individual who is listed in the Great Minds section. The biography can include information about the person’s contribution to science and space. The biography can take the form of a traditional essay or narrated presentation, which can be created using an app such as SlideIdea, 30Hands iMovie, or TouchCast.
