Easy Planner: An App for Lesson Planning

Summary : Aiming to Make Lesson Planning Simpler and Portable for Teachers

Easy Planner functions as a lesson planning tool for teachers. After registering with the app, teachers are brought to the home screen where they must first create a class by tapping the “+” button on the top of the screen, type their class name, and then tap the “Add” button. The app then lists the class, and teachers must tap the class name, which brings them to another screen where they can begin adding content. When adding content, teachers can insert Activities, Media Resources, Planned Homework, and Preparation Tasks to the app by tapping the “+” button that follows each category and then adding in the information. The “Activities” option provides an area to list the lesson’s procedures; the “Media Resources” lets teachers link websites, Google Drive and Dropbox accounts, and images into their lesson; the “Planned Homework” option lets teachers list extending learning opportunities aligned to the lesson; and the “Preparation Tasks” option provides a space for listing materials and other work that needs to be completed before teaching the lesson. If teachers wish to plan for future classes, they can adjust the date by swiping the calendar gears on the top left of the screen, and they can view their plans by day, week, or month using the buttons on the bottom of the screen. At anytime during the planning process, teachers can tap the “>” button on the top right of the lesson planning screen to return to the home screen.

Classroom Applications

  1. Teachers can lesson plan using this app. By doing so, teachers will be able to see current, future, and past lessons plans.
  2. After teaching a lesson, teachers can write a note to themselves about the strengths of the lesson and ways it can be improved using the “Preparation Tasks” section. That way, before re-teaching the lesson, teachers can make any adjustments needed to improve it.
  3. In addition to using this app as lesson planning tool, teachers can also use it as a school event calendar. To do so, teachers can create a class called “School Events” and use it to record upcoming meetings, extracurricular activities, and other events.
