Instructional Ideas

  1. After viewing the introductory video for this app, teachers can have students input the measurements they found while using this app into an equation, as alluded to in the introductory video.
  2. Teachers can have students use this app as part of a word problem. An example word problem is, “Johnny is seated in the auditorium on an aisle seat that is 90 feet from the podium. In which row is Johnny sitting?” Students would then use this app to help them solve this problem. Once students are comfortable using this app to solve word problems, teachers can have them write word problems about measurement that can be solved by using this app.
  3. Teachers can have students use this app to confirm their distance estimation. To do so, teachers can have students stand on specific markers and then estimate the distance between where they are standing and an object. For example, teachers could tape an “X” on their classroom floor and have students estimate how far they are standing from the whiteboard. Students will then record their estimation. After the whole class has estimated, teachers can have them measure the distance using this app.
