Educational Puzzles: A Best App for Young Learners

Summary : A Simple Puzzle App for Young Learners

Educational Puzzles teaches basic vocabulary to young learners by presenting them with puzzles in different categories. Users first select a puzzle category, and then they are presented with a puzzle, which is an image that is missing shapes, and shapes to add to the image. Users then must drag the shapes to complete the puzzle. Once users solve a puzzle, the name of the puzzle’s theme is pronounced, such as an animal or sport. After three puzzles are completed, users are presented with a matching jigsaw puzzle. To complete this puzzle, users drag the two matching pieces together, and then the name of that puzzle’s theme is pronounced. Once users complete the matching puzzle, they are presented with the missing-image puzzle to begin another cycle. With the setting buttons, users are able to control the sound and music features, and also monitor their puzzle-solving progress.

Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can open the app for a student and let the student complete puzzles independently or with their support.
  2. Teachers can open the app for a pair of students to solve together. As they solve the puzzle, the teacher can facilitate a conversation to develop the students’ conversational skills.
  3. Teachers can create a classroom puzzle rotation. To do so, teachers can designate one station as a paper-and-pencil station, another as a digital station, and the last one as a block or shape station. Students would then rotate through the stations while solving different kinds of puzzles.
  4. After solving a puzzle and hearing the app pronounce the puzzle’s theme, teachers can instruct students to draw a picture that also shows that theme.
