Are You Ready? A Tool for Online Learning
Summary : eLearnReady: A self-assessment tool for online learning
eLearnReady is an assessment tool that users can employ to analyze their preparedness for online learning, and there are two main ways users can engage eLearnReady.
First, users can access the self-survey and complete it. Next, the website will analyze their responses and supply them with a report, both via email and on a separate webpage. In it, the user’s strengths and areas for improvement as related to online learning will be shared. In addition, tips for improving in the different areas along with videos that role play scenarios related to online learning are offered.
Second, instructors can register with eLearnReady. By registering, instructors can setup a class profile and then share a link with their students. The students can then complete the self-survey, and the website will report an analysis of each student’s scores along with providing an overall class profile for the instructor.
In addition, users can request a customized eLearnReady survey for a fee, and they can share ideas for how they use eLearnReady in their practice.
Instructional Ideas for eLearnReady
- At the beginning of a class, teachers can ask their students to complete a self-survey. Upon receiving their results, teachers can ask students to write a discussion board post that addresses their strengths and includes a specific goal for improvement.
- When a new course starts, teachers can create a class profile by sending out a self-survey link to their students. Students can then complete the self-survey, and eLearnReady will build a class report. Teachers can analyze the results of that report and use it as the basis for differentiating their instruction.
- After having students complete the self-survey, teachers can use the findings to create mixed-ability groups. The intended result would be that each group has students with diverse strengths and shortcomings. In this way, the group members would be more able to support each other during the course.
- An institution could have students complete the self-survey. Next, that institution could share the results with their advisors, so that they could better schedule classes for students that align with their strengths.
