Endless Spanish: An App for Foreign Language
Summary : The Support Needed for Early Spanish Learners
Endless Spanish helps both native Spanish speakers and English speakers learn Spanish. From the app’s main menu, users need to choose if they wish to use the Spanish Immersion version or Spanish with English Translation version. Next, users are presented the alphabet, and each letter is represented by a Spanish word. Users select the alphabetized word, and the app first presents the word to users and, in response, users must correctly arrange the letters in order to spell the word. As they do, the app pronounces each letter’s name. Next, users are presented a sentence, and they must complete it by putting the words in order to complete the sentence. Once they do, the app shows users a cartoon about the sentence and reads it to theme. At this point, the app progresses users to the next word, or users can tap the ABC Ribbon to return to the main alphabet screen. Uses can change option by tapping the “i” button.
Please Note: Only a limited amount of letters can be accessed for free. Users will have to make an in-app purchase to access additional letters.
Instructional Ideas
- For each letter, teachers can have students write the Spanish word and its English equivalent. Students can keep a log of all the words they learned from this app. Each week students can review the words they logged with their teachers. Teachers can ask students to say the words aloud, offer an English equivalent for the words, and use the word in a sentence.
- To build Spanish fluency, students can repeat back the Spanish words and phrases narrated by this app. When ready, students can say the words and phrases to a teacher, and the teacher can decide if the student is ready to progress to the next letter.
- After students learn a Spanish word in this app, students can use the MemeMatic app to create a meme for the word.
