English Grammar Book supports users in learning and using the English language. From the app’s main screen, users can choose one of three options. The “Grammar Book” option provides users with a comprehensive index of grammatical terms (e.g., parts of speech, usage rules, types of sentences, etc.). Once users complete the quiz, they are shown their score. The “Marks Scored” option keeps a record of all the quizzes and scores users have earned.
Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can assign students a word from the “Grammar Book” option. Students are then to read the word’s definition and other information provided by the app. Next, students are to summarize the definition and write three sentences that exemplify the term. Students can use an Office app to summarize the definition and compose their sentences, which they can then email from the app to their teacher.
- As independent practice, teachers can require students to complete the all quizzes in this app over the course of a month or semester. Teachers can require students to earn a minimum score in order for a quiz to be “completed” and for them to advance to the next quiz.
- When reading a text, teachers can point out a grammar rule from this app and have students find the rule being used in a text they are reading. Teachers can then facilitate a discussion about the rule by asking: (1) Where in this text is this rule being used?, (2) Explain why/how you know this rule is being used?, and (3) Is there another rule or term that could be used here?
