Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can use English Tests and English Games FREE to create a review game by having students participate in the same level drill at the same time. At the end of the drill, students can report their scores and share whether they were able to answer all of the questions in the allotted 100 seconds. If students respond well to using this app, teachers can then create a class competition in which all the students play the same the level at the same time. Teachers would then specify a minimum number of correct answers required (e.g., eight or more) for students to proceed to the next round in the competition.
- Teachers can have students create their own sentences that model the questions used in the English Tests and English Games FREE app. Teachers can then have their students share their sentences with their classmates. To add an additional layer to this activity, students could use an app such as Explain Everything to create their questions and upload to the class website. (See Explain Everything – Instructional Idea #2 for additional information.)
- Teachers can use this app to teach sentence variety patterns. For example, teachers could project their iPad for the whole class to play one level together. After the level is complete, the class can view each sentence individually. While viewing the sentence, teachers can require students to restate the sentence using a different sentence pattern in a way that does not change the meaning of the sentence.
- Teachers can use the “Funny Stories and 999 Jokes” feature in English Tests and English Games FREE as an incentive for students to engage the app to strengthen their reading fluency and grammar skills.
