Evernote

Evernote allows users to create, share, and save notes. After registering and logging into the app, users must tap the “+” button on the bottom right of the screen to create a new note. When creating the note, users can add text by typing onto the note and they can change the default note title by tapping and then typing on it. Additionally, users can tap the icons on the top of the note to add reminders, take and add pictures, draw lines and sketches, attach files, or share their notes via email among others. Once notes are created, users can access them by scrolling along the left side of their screen. When users find a note, they must tap it order to read and edit its contents. Users can upload documents into a note and create notebooks in Evernote through its website (www.evernote.com).

Instructional Ideas

1. While listening to a lecture, viewing a presentation, or reading a text, students can use this app to take and store notes about the topic. Students can label their notes by topic, so they are able to add to their notes over time.
2. At the end of the semester or school year, teachers can require students to create a portfolio that demonstrates their learning from the class. Students can choose which artifacts to include in their portfolio and upload them as notes to this app or create a notebook through this app’s website. Students can add notes through the app that explain why they selected the specific artifacts they did. Students can share their portfolio and notes with their teacher via email.
3. When conducting research, teachers can have students create and store information as different notes using this app. For example, each source and information could be saved as a different note. That way, when students begin writing their research paper, they can quickly access the information they saved.
4. As students complete a project or lab, they can take and store multiple pictures of them completing the project or lab. The pictures can be saved as notes, and students can write a caption for each picture so it relates or explains the picture.
5. When working with other students, teachers can have them share a note that houses their work to support collaboration.
