Instructional Ideas for Find Music by Lyrics
- When teaching poetry, teachers can have students conduct searches using this website of the different lines that are included in a poem to see how they may have also been used in a song. Students can then compare the ways a line was used in a poem being studied against how it was used in a song. To complete this analysis, teachers can have students create a Venn diagram to show that comparison.
- As part of a humanities project, teachers can have students identify a specific number of songs that were part of a time period or genre (e.g., 10 songs, 15 songs, etc.). Students can then analyze the songs for themes and explain the connection between the themes they identified and the time period or genre. To complete this work, students can select an image that illustrates the theme and then create a ThingLink infographic to explain the connections.
- After students have used this website to identify songs, they can use the Genius app to learn more about the song. After reading about the meaning of the song and its lyrics, students can compose a summary of the song and explain in brief whether they like it or not and why. Students can then share their thoughts to the class via Padlet or Dotstorming.
