Fotor: The Online Editing Tool That’s Revolutionizing Photo Editing

Summary : A Go-To Tool for Photo Editing and Enhancement

Fotor is a website designed to resize, crop, and enhance photos. To begin, users must launch the website and then choose the “Edit” option. A workspace will load, and users can begin editing an image by clicking the “Open” button and selecting the photo they wish to edit.

At this point, users can click the different options on the left side of the screen to edit their photo’s dimension, size, and features. Users should begin with the “Basic” menu, so they can position and size their photo before using the “Effect” and “Beauty” menus to adjust the colors, brightness, and blemishes in the photo. Users can further personalize the photo with the Fames, Sticker, and Text options.

As users make edits to their photo, they can click the “Snapshot” button on the top to record the changes, and users will see those recordings on the right side of the screen. When finished, users can click the “Save” button, name the file, and click the “Download” button to save it to their computer.

If users wish to make a collage or their own design (e.g., an invitation, announcement, bulletin, etc.), they can choose those options on the main screen. They can then add content to the template of their choosing, and the process to complete those products is similar to the one for editing photos.

Please Note: Fotor is a freemium website, and it allows users to access all their content for free. However, the use of options that include a ribbon on the menu will result in a watermark being added to the finished product.

Instructional Ideas for Fotor

  1. As part of a presentation or larger project, teachers can have students edit a specific number of photos using this website. They can then incorporate them into the presentation or larger project.
  2. To help teach tone, teachers can have students select one photo to edit. Teachers can then have students edit the photo to feel warm and friendly, cold and forbidding, or festive and jubilant. Students can then post their different takes on the photo to a class website and members in the class can respond to the photos by stating the tone they interpret from the photos.
  3. Teachers can have students compare this photo editing website to other photo editing tools, such as Photo Effects with Drive, FotoJet, and Be Funky. Students can compare these different websites and choose the one they wish to use for future projects. In addition, teachers can have students discuss the different websites by asking: (1) What did you like about the website?, (2) What did you find confusing about the website?, and (3) How could you use this website for future projects?
  4. Teachers can have students create an image in this website and then students can use that image to create an infographic using ThingLink, Smore, and Canva.
