Instructional Ideas

  1. Instead of or in addition to a traditional paper, students can create a glog with this website. The glog can include a thesis statement and images, video, and audio that provide supporting evidence for the thesis statement. When finished, students can share their glog in small groups, present it to an entire class, post it to a class website, or email it to their teacher.
  2. Teachers can assign students a topic to teach the class. In response, students can create a glog about their topic that includes relevant information in the form of videos, text, images, and audio. Next, students can project their glog and use it as a visual aid during their instruction. The glog can also be posted to a class website or emailed out, so fellow students can access it during and after the lesson.
  3. Teachers can have a class competition to see who can create the most original glog. To do so, teachers will need to decide a theme for the glogs, and themes can be related to a community or school event. Next, students can be given a deadline to have completed their glog, and they can submit it to their teacher by email. The teacher can then post the glogs to a class website in a way that hides the students’ identities, and students can vote for their favorite glog. After all students have voted, the teacher can announce the winning glog!
  4. As an end-of-unit review activity, teachers can assign students different topics within the unit and have them create a glog that represents each topic. After creating their glogs, students can do a gallery walk. To do so, all students will open their glog on their device and walk around the room viewing the different glogs. As they do, students will need to record key information presented in the glog, such as facts, dates, ideas, theories, and more. When they finish their gallery walk, students will have a list of key information that they can study for the upcoming assessment.
  5. At the beginning of the year, teachers can have students use this app as an icebreaking activity. To do so, teachers can have students create a glog that represents themselves. In it, students can include pictures of themselves, links to music they enjoy, videos of hobbies and sports they engage, and more! When the glog is finished, students can share it with classmates in small groups.
