Grafio Lite lets users create graphic organizers and semantic maps. After launching the app and viewing its instructional overview, users can create a blank workspace by tapping the “+” button on the top left of the screen. Next, users can tap the different icons on the toolbar located at the top of the screen to add text, images, and lines to the workspace. When users add a shape, they can tap it once to access tools, which let them duplicate the shape, add fill colors to it, and record an audio track. Users must tap a shape twice to add text. To “lock” the workspace so users can scroll through its content without moving it, they can tap the “Hand” button on the top of the screen. Once users have finalized their work, they can tap the “Upload” button the top right of the screen to share it via email or social media, open in other apps, or save it to their camera roll.
Instructional Ideas
- After reading a text, teachers can have students create an image that depicts the text’s main points. Students can add recordings to their work to help explain specific details. When finished, students can email the image to their teacher.
- When comparing two or more topics, students can create a Venn diagram or T-chart using this app for each topic of comparison. Students can use the recording feature in this app to explain the comparisons they are depicting. When finished, students can email the comparisons to their teacher.
- Students can write and solve an equation in this app. After solving it, students can use the record feature to narrate how they solved the equation. Students can email their teacher a copy of the solved equation. Or, if students are unable to solve the equation, students can record a message that explains their questions. Again, students can email their work to the teacher for feedback.
- Students can create a graphic organizer about a person or topic using this app. To do so, students can do an online image search to find a picture that represents the person or topic. To upload the picture, it must be saved to the camera roll and then imported into the app via the “Image” feature. Next, students can add lines, shapes, recordings, and text that connect ideas to the person or topic in their organizer. Students can then post their work to a class website, so other students can learn from the organizer.
