Grammar Fun Free: An App for Language
Summary : Basic Grammar Practice Made Easy
Grammar Fun Free is a high-paced app that requires users to identify different parts of speech. After launching the app, users must choose if they want nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs to be part of the practice exercises by setting them to be either on or off. Next, users are presented simple sentences with blanks over the different parts of speech in the sentence. For each blank, there is a corresponding term located above the sentence (e.g., noun, verb, adjective, adverb). Users must drag the term into its blank in order to correctly answer the sentence. If they are correct, the app progresses users to the next sentence. If they are incorrect, users must try again.
Please Note: Only a limited amount of sentences are available for free. Users will have to make an in-app purchase to access additional sentences.
Instructional Ideas
- To review parts of speech, teachers can have students complete exercises in this app independently.
- Teachers can connect their iPad to a projector and select a student to come to the front of the room and complete a sentence. After completing the sentence, the student who came to the front of the room can further identify the parts of speech. For example, the student can identify if the verb is a linking, action, or being verb. If the noun is a common noun, subject noun, or proper noun. If the student needs help, classmates can be called on for support.
- Once students have become proficient using this app, teachers can transfer their parts of speech identification skills to paper-and-pencil practice.
