Graphic Organizer: A Best App for Comprehension
Summary : Making Graphic Organizers Accessible to Teachers & Students!
Graphic Organizer contains over 30 graphic organizers. After launching the app, users select a graphic organizer by tapping its icon on the home screen. Next, users must tap that they want to create a new diagram. They then tap in the graphic organizer’s boxes to add text, and they can use the palette to change the text’s color, size, and margins. When finished, users can send their graphic organizer to a printer or share it over email, Dropbox, or Air Share. To learn more about the purpose and function of each graphic organizer, users can tap the “About” button.
Please Note: Only a limited amount of graphic organizers can be shared without a subscription purchase. However, users are able to take a screenshot of the graphic organizer, so they can save their work to their camera roll and email out images of it from there.
Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can have students read a text and then assign them a graphic organizer from this app to complete. Students can email their teacher the completed graphic organizer.
- After reading a text, teachers can have students choose a graphic organizer that best aligns with the text they read and complete it. For example, a text about a historical happening could be paired with the Event Map or Cause and Effect organizer. After reading a persuasive text or an editorial, students could pair with it the Fact and Opinion or Venn 2 Set Diagram organizer. Once students complete their organizer, they can email it to their teacher.
- When introducing a topic, teachers can have students complete the ABC Brainstorming, KWL, or KWHL organizer. That way, teachers can pre-assess students’ knowledge bases before beginning the unit.
