Handwriting worksheets for children: Learn to write the letters of the alphabet in script and cursive

Handwriting Worksheets for Children enables users to practice cursive handwriting by providing a lined sheet with a letter on each line for students to begin tracing. Each line then contains blank space for the users to practice writing the letter on their own. To begin, users first select from uppercase or lowercase letters. After tapping the desired category, users tap the “1” button and are then presented with the first five letters of the alphabet to be traced on a lined worksheet. Once all of the letters have been traced, users may then tap numbers 2 through 6, which are listed on the left side of the app. Each number indicates a new page with a new set of letters to be traced. If at any time users make a mistake, they may use the erase tool to correct their errors and try again. Plus, users can choose from an array of ink colors and pen sizes. When users are finished with a tracing activity, they can share their work via email or save to their photo gallery.

 Instructional Ideas

1. In the classroom, students can use this Handwriting app to practice tracing and writing letters. Once students are comfortable tracing and writing the letters in the app, they can then be instructed to transfer their skills and practice writing their letters on a piece of paper.
2. Teachers can use the Handwriting app for students to practice a specified letter written by the teacher on the board. After practicing the writing of each letter, the teacher can then ask the students to name specific words that begin with the letter being practiced in the app. For example, as students practice writing the letter ‘a,’ the teacher can ask the students to come up with words that start with ‘a,’ such as apple, ape, or art. As students list words, the teacher can write them on the board. This activity will help students connect the letters they are working on with actual words.
3. Teachers can use the Handwriting app to determine letters with which students are having difficulty. By instructing students to write those letters down on a sheet of paper and collecting them, the teacher can then direct students to focus their practice to those specific letters within the Handwriting app.
4. After engaging in the practice of tracing and writing letters, teachers can instruct students to create “final drafts” of the letters. To do so, the teacher could instruct students to open a fresh screen within the Handwriting app and complete a final activity to be emailed to the teacher or saved to the photo gallery for the teacher to review. This final draft will provide the teacher with each student’s current progress.
