iRubric allows users to create basic rubrics. After launching the app, users first select the number of columns and rows for their rubric and then tap the “Create” button. On the next screen, users are able to customize the rubric by entering the text that they wish to use for one cell of the rubric at a time. To do so, users type the text for the cell in the field provided, tap the “Set” button, and then tap the cell on the rubric where they want the text to appear. Once finished, users tap the “Camera” button, which saves the rubric to their camera roll and in the app.

Please note: Only one rubric can be saved in the app at a time. Once a new rubric is saved, it will erase the previously saved rubric.

Classroom Applications

  1. Teachers can use this app to create rubrics for a variety of assignments. Teachers can post the rubric from their camera roll to a class website so students can see the expectations for an assignment. Or, teachers can email their students the rubric.
  2. After assigning students work, teachers can allow students to first create a rubric using this app to grade their work. This way, students will set the expectations for their work, and teachers will have a rubric that can be used to evaluate their work.
  3. After teachers use a rubric created by this app to grade an assignment, teachers can go back and review the rubric. Next, teachers can make changes to the rubric that strengthen any shortcomings they experienced while using it to grade student work.
