Instructional Ideas

  1. In project-based or challenge-based learning, students can use iThoughts HD to brainstorm, collaborate, and organize their goals, responsibilities, research, and work flow. To do so, teachers can instruct students to create a tree. The top of the tree would be the central topic, and the tree’s branches could consist of subtopics, allowing the tree to grow as students add their ideas and plans.
  2. Because maps in iThoughts HD can take a variety of forms, students can be instructed to create flow charts, timelines, drawings, or cycles, to demonstrate their understanding of a topic covered in class. Maps can then be shared with the class via the image exporting features, or with the teacher via a cloud storage and sharing app, like Dropbox.
  3. Students can use iThoughts HD to organize their ideas and identify the relationships of topics to be covered in writing assignments or research projects. These mind maps can be reviewed and edited during the writing process to help keep students on the right track.
4. In the English classroom, teachers can instruct students to use iThoughts HD to create a character map that describes specific features of their favorite character. Students can then share their maps with their peers using the various sharing options and comment on each other’s work.
  5. In the Social Studies classroom, teachers can instruct students to use iThoughts HD to create maps to demonstrate the flow of history and the relationships between different historical persons and movements. These maps can then be shared with the teacher, who can print them for display in the classroom.
