Lamophone beta

Free! Lamophone Beta turns a device into a musical instrument that is original to tablets. After launching the app, users are able to play the lamophone. Because this is the beta version of the app, tutorials for playing the instrument are not offered; however, the lamophone’s keys are each labeled with a note that can be played by tapping and/or holding them. 1. Teachers can share this app with students and have them download it to their device. Next, teachers can give students a piece of sheet music and have them play it on their lamophone. Students can then journal their thoughts about playing the new instrument. Sample prompts include: (1) What did you like about the instrument? (2) Would you prefer playing this instrument or a more traditional one? (3) What were some challenges you had while playing this instrument?
2. Students can play a piece of music on the lamophone and then another musical instrument of their choice. Next, students can then use the Venn Diagram app to compare their experiences playing the two instruments.
3. Groups of students can create a digital band, and each student can play a different instrument with the lamophone being one of the instruments played. Students can practice playing in their band and, when they are ready, the teacher can record them using the TouchCast app. After recording them, the teacher can post it to a class website so other students can view it. After viewing it, students can respond to the recording by posting a critique.
4. Students can independently play a song on their lamophone. When ready, they can record themselves playing the song. They can do this each week and monitor their recordings to see if they improve.
