Learn Sports Trivia helps users memorize significant facts about the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and EPL. When launching the app, Learn Sports Trivia first offers users a list of trivia categories organized by each professional sports league. Upon selecting the league for study, Learn Sports Trivia presents users with a digital flashcard of a question. When ready, users can tap the flashcard to see the answer. Learn Sports Trivia will then ask if the user knew the answer by selecting a rating of 1 up to 5 (with 1 reflecting he or she did not know it, and 5 reflecting that he or she knew it perfectly). If users tap a lower ranking, Learn Sports Trivia will frequently present that flashcard for review; however, if users select a higher ranking, the flashcard will appear less often for review. Learn Sports Trivia also allows users to browse a category’s entire card list, search its database of flashcards using specific key terms (e.g., team names, players’ names, years, etc.), and track a user’s overall mastery of sports trivia. Additional content can be accessed upon in-app purchases.
Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can use Learn Sports Trivia in a friendly class competition by grouping students into teams for a trivia-question challenge.
- After reading a sports article, teachers can instruct students to compose trivia questions based on the article and modeled after the type of questions in Learn Sports Trivia. As a reading comprehension check, students can read trivia questions aloud for other students to answer. To add rigor to this activity, teachers can model for students how to write questions that require inference skills based on text-based evidence in the article. For example, teachers can ask students how a player or team may react because of a certain situation that happened in the article.
- Teachers can use Learn Sports Trivia over the course of a week, month, semester, or year to have students track their overall mastery of sports trivia. Teachers can then reward students who know the most sports trivia at the end of the designated period of time.
