Instructional Ideas

  1. Using The Life of Art, teachers can have students view an object prior to having them reproduce it. The reproductions may include recreating the object using clay, sculpture, or drawing/painting.
  2. Teachers can assign students research projects about artwork. In completing this assignment, teachers can first instruct students to read the information presented about the objects in The Life of Art app as a model. Reading these examples can provide students with ideas about what they will need to investigate about a piece of art that they will be assigned to research, not included in this app. Following, students will complete a research project modeled after the information presented in The Life of Art. To produce this report, students can use the Haiku Deck app to create slides that contain both images and text about the artwork they were assigned. Finally, students can present their reports to their classmates by projecting them or by posting them to a class website.
  3. Teachers can instruct students to create an original piece of artwork and compose a report similar to the ones included The Life of Art app. Teachers can add a twist to this assignment by requiring students to create a digital piece of artwork using another app such as Let’s Create! Pottery HD or Paper by FiftyThree.
