Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can have students watch a video and complete a practice quiz about a poetic topic using the Little Poets app. Following, teachers can instruct students to compose a poem emphasizing the topic from the video and the quiz. For example, after watching the video about describing words, teachers can have students write poems that describe an object. After writing their poems, class discussion can take place in which students share with the teacher the different descriptive words used in their poems.
  2. Following completion of the Reading & Rhyming quiz in the Little Poets app, teachers can expand the lesson and assess learning by composing a list of words for which students are instructed to create their own list of words that rhyme with those on the teacher’s list.
  3. Using the Reciting Poetry Loud and Clear quiz in the Little Poets app, teachers can have the class participate in a reading exercise, in which each student is to compose and recite a poem to his or her classmates.
