Little You 3D: A Tool for Creating Customizable Characters
Summary : Create your favorite character now!
Little You 3D is a website that allows users to create customizable characters that they can order. If users do order the character, they can choose if it is 3cm, 4cm, or 5cm tall, and the cost for ordering characters depends on its size. (The 3cm characters start at $25.)
To create their character, users must visit the Little You 3D website and then click the “Play” button on the top right of the screen. Next, a new screen loads, and it presents users with a blank character. At this point, users can view the different options on the left, which lets them add and customize everything about their character, starting with the hair and ending with their shoes along with everything in between (e.g., eyes, mouth, tops, bottoms). When they select an element to customize on the left menu, the website will provide them with multiple options. Users simply have to click on the option they wish to use, and the website will add it to their character.
On the right of the screen is a color palette that allows users to locate the specific colors they wish to add to their character. Users can also add the hex code for specific colors. (If you need a hex code guide, check out this one!) To customize the color of a feature on their character, users will simply have to locate the color on the palette, click the “choose” option, and then click the element on their character they wish to make that color.
When users finish creating their character, they can click the “Make Me” option. They can then complete the forms needed to order their avatar.
Instructional Ideas for Little You 3D
Note, as there is a cost for ordering these characters, teachers are encouraged to consider different fundraising options and seek approval from their school administrators before organizing such an event.
- After reading about a character or historical figure, teachers can direct students to this website and have them create the character or figure using this tool. If students do not wish to order it, they can take a screenshot of their character or figure and save it, so it can be added to presentations, websites, or shared with the class community for feedback.
- In a creative writing class, teachers can have students compose a story or poem about a unique character the students created. To help them visualize their character, teachers can direct students to this website to design their character. When finished, teachers can give students the option of ordering their character or taking a screenshot of it. That way, when doing a writer’s workshop about their story or poem, students can include an image or model of their actual character.
- In a history class, teachers can have students pick a famous moment in time, such as a meeting between two leaders, a battle scene, or another historical event. Teachers can then have students design the characters using this website who would have been involved in that event. They can then order the characters and, once they arrive, students can arrange them to replicate the event.
- Teachers in different content areas can order a character to use as a model. In an art class, students can attempt to paint the model or recreate it using clay. For an English class, teachers can have students use descriptive writing to capture the character’s experience. In a math class, teachers can have students measure the character using both the Metric and Imperial systems.
