LiveSchool: A Tool for Classroom Management
Summary : Don’t Just Monitor Behavior, Document It!
LiveSchool is a classroom management website that allows teachers to input and track student behavior in real time. To begin, teachers need to register with the website and a dashboard view will then appear. To add students, teachers will need to click the “Setup” button followed by the “Students” option and then add students by clicking the “+New” button on the top right of the screen. They can then manually enter in students’ names, grade, and gender. (Please note, teachers can upload multiple students at once by clicking the “Upload Spreadsheet” option and following the directions.)
When finished, teachers can click the “Lined” button on the top left of the screen to return to their dashboard view and then click the “Points” option to award or deduct points based on student behavior. To do so, teachers will need to click a student’s name, click the “Continue” button on the bottom right of the screen, award or deduct points based on student behavior, and then click the “Submit” button on the bottom right of the screen. (If teachers wish to add a note, they can do so by clicking the “Dialogue” button on the bottom of the screen and typing in their note.) In response, LiveSchool will indicate a point has been awarded or deducted by making a sound and teachers are then returned to the list of students to repeat the process.
If teachers wish to access additional options, they can click the “Menu” button on the top left of the screen and choose an option. The “Rewards” option lets teachers create prizes that students can earn by exchanging the points they earned. The “Reports” option shows teachers documentation regarding the points their students earned or were charged over a period of time. The “Insights” option reports on teacher usage of LiveSchool via different styles of reports, scoreboards, and tracking features.
Please Note: LiveSchool allows for additional customization using the options located in the “Setup” menu.
Classroom Applications for LiveSchool
- Teachers can enter all their students into LiveSchool at the beginning of the year and then award/deduct points throughout the year based on behavior.
- Teachers can use the reporting features in LiveSchool to share student behavior with parents/guardians. If used over a period of time, LiveSchool can show documentation for making data-based decisions.
- Teachers can personalize LiveSchool by adding in their own incentives using the “Rewards” feature, and that may result in students feeling more connected to the classroom community.
