Instructional Ideas
- Students can compare and contrast two pieces from the same century from the Louvre HD app with a different piece from the Art app. Guiding prompts for these comparisons can include how the pieces are similar and how they are different. Students can then be instructed to explain their comparisons verbally or in writing.
- Teachers can have students open Louvre HD and instruct them to imagine the whole class is going on a field trip to see the galleries of the Louvre in Paris. As students peruse this app, they can decide on their favorite piece, what interested them the most, and the century that has the most interesting art, among other prompts. Teachers can then have students share their thoughts using a class blog or by composing a journal entry about their experience.
- Teachers can instruct students to share their favorite piece of artwork from Louvre HD on social media (either a class page or with their peers). In their sharing, students will have to compose a brief report that requires them to research the piece’s background (e.g., time period when the piece was created and who created it), and provide commentary about why this piece of artwork spoke to them in particular.
- After perusing art “By Genre” on the main navigation page in Louvre HD, students can be instructed to pick a genre from the compiled list and paint their own piece that would fall under one of the included genres. Upon completion of painting their pieces, students will have to explain how their painting shares characteristics of other pieces from that genre.
