Instructional Ideas

  1. When explaining to students how the stock market functions, teachers can use this app to show the different exchanges and how each exchange offers a unique measurement of the market.
  2. Teachers can have students read a financial news article that pertains to a specific stock or investment area. After reading the article, teachers can require students to make and defend a statement whether they would or would not invest in a certain stock or area, and explain their decision. Explanations can be supported with information listed in the article or by conducting outside research.
  3. Teachers can assign students to read a specific commentary-based article in this app. Next, students would have to defend whether they agree or disagree with commentary and why. Students can conduct outside research to further support their stance.
  4. Teachers can have students select an investment to track using the app’s “Quote lookup” feature. After tracking it for a week, teachers can have students write a paragraph explaining if they would spend their own money on the investment. Students can then present their rationale verbally to classmates or by posting it to a class website.
