Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can show students an instrument and let them play it individually. Next, teachers can show students another instrument and let them play it. After repeating this process, teachers can ask students which instrument they prefer and why.
  2. As students gain proficiency playing the instruments, teachers can put them together to form a band. To start, teachers can have students hum a familiar song together, such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, The Itsy-Bitsy Spider, or Row Row Row Your Boat. Next, teachers can assign each student an instrument to play. Finally, teachers can have their class hum the song again, but this time students are to begin playing their instrument along with it. (This activity will first need to be modeled by the teacher.)
  3. Teachers can have students play the instruments in this app and then play the instruments in the Bongo Drums, Tiny Piano, and Guitar Chords app. After students have played the instruments in the different apps, teachers can begin a conversation by asking: (1) Which instrument did you like playing the most? (2) Which app did you like playing the most? (3) If you were going to be a musician, which app do you think would be most helpful and why?
