Instructional Ideas
- When learning about charts, teachers and students can view this website together. Next, teachers can lead students through an activity where they discuss the benefits and appropriate uses of each chart included in this website. Students can take notes about the different charts and when to use them. This activity can work as a springboard to the following instructional ideas.
- Teachers can divide a class into small groups of students. Each group can be given a data set. Working together, the group will have to decide the best way to present their data using this website. Choices groups will have to make when creating their chart include: (1) Which chart type best presents the data, (2) Labels for the different axes needed for the chart, and (3) Color schemes/designs for the chart. When finished, the teacher can have each group present their chart and explain why they designed the chart in the way they did. Explanations can be verbal or written using an Office app.
- After conducting an experiment and recording data, students can be required to use this website in order to create a chart the displays the data. Students can also write a short explanation that discusses the data presented in the chart.
- After solving a math problem, students can graph their data using this website.
