Practice English Grammar: An App for Grammar Reinforcement
Summary : An Easy-to-Use Grammar App
Practice English Grammar contains a series of grammar exercises and tests for users to complete. The exercises and tests range from beginner to advanced, and each level contains a variety of grammatical topics, such as past and simple conjunctions, possessives, and modal verbs, among others. When users select a topic, they are presented with “Practice” and “Test” options. When the “Practice” option is selected, users are presented with instruction such as, “Identify if this statement is true or false” or “Finish the statements about present continuous.” Users are then presented with the activity or practice and an “Unknown” and “Known” option. If users can correctly respond to the prompt, they are to tap the “Known” option. If they cannot respond to it, they are to tap the “Unknown” option. Additionally, users can tap the bottom corner of the screen to read about the grammar rule. When users feel confident that they understand the topic of the lesson, they can tap the “Test” option, which will present them with 10 sentences, exercises, or pieces of content that they are to answer correctly. If users respond incorrectly, the app provides them with the correct answer. At the end of the test, users are presented their final score.
Please note: Only one exercise is available for each lesson in this app. Users must purchase a subscription to access all of its content.
Instructional Ideas
- After teaching a grammar lesson, teachers can find that topic in this app and have students complete the practice exercise and test. After completing the test, users can take a screen shot of their results and email it to their teacher for accountability.
- Teachers can assign students a grammar lesson or unit to complete in this app each week. On the Friday of the week, teachers can walk around the room while students show them their progress.
- After becoming familiar with a specific topic included in this app, teachers can have students write additional test items using the UX Write, Office Offline, or WPS Office app. Students can then email their teacher the test items they made, and the teacher can post them as a review, quiz, or extra-credit assignment on a class website.
