Rosetta Stone® Kids Lingo Letter Sounds provides multiple activities that develop young users’ English and Spanish language skills. From the app’s main screen, users are able to pick the different activities they would like to play. Examples of these activities include “Bubbles Letter Sounds” that require users to match letters to pictures. The “Spanish Speak & Learn” activity requires users to pronounce Spanish words correctly. The “Toy Shelf” lets users view and tap different toys and the app will show the toy’s name. As users advance through the levels, from level 1 to levels 2 and 3, the complexity of the activities increase. The “Parent” option provides users control over the settings, and they can view user progress as well.

Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can have students practice their early literacy skills independently using this app. As they complete the different activities, teachers can make sweeps of the room to monitor student progress.
  2. To help reinforce learning, teachers can present this app to parents and encourage parents to spend time with their child using this app.
  3. After students complete an activity in this app, either in school or at home, teachers can have the students explain what they did and/or experienced while using this app. Based on their responses, teachers can modify lessons.
  4. After students gain practice learning letters and language in this app, teachers can have students transfer that skill from the app to the classroom setting. For example, teachers can point at an object and ask students what letter begins the object’s name. Or, teachers can have students say Spanish words and they can react to the words spoken.
