Rubrics Cubed Lite: A Best App for Assessment
Summary : Want to make a rubric and use it?
Rubrics Cubed Lite allows teachers to create rubrics and use them to evaluate student work. When first launching Rubrics Cubed Lite, teachers will need to create a profile by submitting their name and email. Next, teachers tap the “Construct Rubrics” option, and the app will prompt teachers to enter information about their course. To add and edit information in this menu, teachers tap the “pencil” icon. To create a rubric, teachers tap the pencil located by the “Rubric” menu and then the “+” button. Teachers can then enter the name of the rubric they wish to create. Once the rubric is named, teachers can add criteria to it by selecting the rubric from the rolodex menu and then tapping “Rubric Editor,” which will take them to a new screen. On the new screen, teachers can add dimensions to their rubric by tapping the “+” button on the bottom of the screen, and Rubrics Cubed Lite will prompt them to enter information specific to the rubric.
To administer the rubric, teachers return to the main menu and tap the “Evaluate Students” option. On the next screen, teachers will need to select the rubric and course that they wish to use and then tap the “Administer New Evaluation” button on the top-right of the screen. This will launch a new screen on which teachers can add students to the class. Once students are added, teachers can tap one or more students’ names and then the “Administer New Evaluation” button on the top-right to evaluate students with the rubric. Once students are evaluated, teachers can return to the main menu and tap the “Manage Results” option. This option allows teachers to email students their scores, view previously administered evaluations, or generate course-spreadsheet grading reports that can be emailed. In closing, there is a small learning curve that teachers will need to overcome when first using Rubrics Cubed Lite. However, once teachers learn how to use this app, it can be an effective assessment tool.
