Instructional Ideas

  1. To reinforce their learning, teachers can have students play a game after a mini-lesson about a topic. As students play the game, teachers can make sweeps of the room to monitor their progress.
  2. After playing a game, teachers can facilitate a class conversation by asking students: (1) What did you like about the game?, (2) What skills did you use or knowledge did you have to know when playing the game?, and (3) If you were going to make one change to the game, what would it be? As students answer, teachers can ask them to provide examples to help clarify their responses.
  3. To review content before an assessment, teachers can have students play a game that relates to the topic. Students can complete this review in class, as a homework assignment, or during transitions between learning activities.
