SlideIdea – Make Your Presentation Life Easier

SlideIdea provides users with multiple presentation templates that they can customize. To use SlideIdea, users must first select the “New” presentation option by tapping the “+” button from the main menu screen. Next, users must select the template they wish to use. Once users find the template they want to use, they tap on it to download the template to their device. After it is downloaded, users can personalize it by selecting the slide template and then adding or modifying text, images, shapes, graphs, tables, and hyperlinks. Once satisfied with their presentation, users can save it by tapping the “Play” button on the top right of the screen. They can also view their presentation by tapping the “Play” button. When viewing their presentation, users can move their fingers in a “pinch” motion to access a new menu, which will give them a “record” and “whiteboard” option. If the “Record” option is selected, users can narrate and annotate their presentation. With the “Whiteboard” option, users are presented with a workspace that they can illustrate. Lastly, users can select the menu tab from the main screen and choose the “SlideCast” option to view presentations created by fellow users.

Instructional Ideas

1. When preparing an oral report to be given to a class, teachers can require students to create a presentation using this app. In this way, students will have a visual aid to display while presenting their report.
2. Teachers can show students high-quality and low-quality presentations created with this app. As teachers show the presentations, they should facilitate a conversation about the strengths and weaknesses of the presentations. Sample topics to discuss are the use of images, text placement, wordiness, slide organization, and overall effect of the slide on viewers.
3. In substitution or in addition to a traditional paper-and-pen report, teachers can require students to create a presentation using this app.
4. As part of a jigsaw activity, teachers can break a main topic of study into multiple subtopics. Small groups of students can then be assigned a subtopic. Groups will then be given a specific amount of time to create a presentation using this app. When ready, each group will present their work to their classmates. Teachers should have groups who are not presenting take notes about the topic being presented. Additionally, they can offer feedback regarding the quality of the presentation.
