Users can also add words that are not included in the dictionary by tapping the “New Word” button on the top left of the screen. Once they are finished adding words, users tap the “done” button on the top right of the screen. To practice spelling words, users tap the “practice” button and then Spelling Notebook Free shows them the word and pronounces it for them. Users then type the word. After users have practiced, they can tap the “retest” button, which will prompt them to spell the words again. However, this time, the word will only be pronounced. After users have completed at least one practice exercise, Spelling Notebook Free can send an email containing their score.
Instructional Ideas
- Teachers can have students create word lists of key vocabulary and practice spelling the words using this app. Teachers can have students send them score reports for accountability and grading.
- Students can create a Word Log word list in this app. That way, when they come across a word that they do not know while reading a text, they can enter it into their Word Log and learn how to spell it. Teachers can check students’ Word Logs periodically to ensure that they are adding words on a regular basis.
- Teachers can assign students a story, chapter, or article to read. After reading the text, teachers can have students go back into the text and select the 5, 10, or 20 most challenging words from it and add them to a word list named after that text.
