Stocks: Real-Time Stock Track - An App for Finances

Summary : A Needed Resource for Economic and Finance Classes

Stock Tracker (Real-time Stock & Forex Tracker) is a comprehensive stock market app. With Stock Tracker, users are provided with live reports pertaining to the major stock indices, currencies, and commodities. Plus, users are able to monitor specific stocks, and convert currency types from the “My Stocks” option on the app’s home screen.

Instructional Ideas

  1. When discussing a financial topic, teachers can project specific graphs and charts in this app to help them explain the topic. For example, when discussing exchange rates, teachers can input different amounts of USD for other types of currency, or they can show students the amount of money in which different currencies are being bought and sold.
  2. As part of a project, teachers can assign students a stock to monitor for a period of time (e.g. a week, month, or semester), and they can have students provide updates on the stock. The updates can be a tweet on a class message board or a more formal presentation where they argue if and why their stock should be bought or sold.
  3. As a class assignment, teachers can create a scenario where students have a specific sum of money to invest (e.g. $100, $1,000, $5,000, etc.). Students would then have to decide where they would invest their funds, whether it is a stock, currency, or another invest. Finally, students would have to compose a written rationale justifying their choice. The rationale could be posted to a class website where students can respond if they agree or disagree with the investment.
