Instructional Ideas

  1. Before allowing students to use word processing apps (e.g., UX Write, Office Offline, WPS Office, Hanx Writer, etc.), teachers can require students to complete all the lessons in this app and earn a certain words-typed-per-minute and accuracy score.
  2. Teachers can create a friendly class competition where students compete to see who can type the quickest and with the most accuracy. For accountability, teachers can name the lesson in this app that students are to complete. Students will then complete the lesson. After completing it, students can take a screenshot of their results and show their teacher. The student who has the best time and highest accuracy, as shown by the screenshot of their results, will be crowned the winner.
  3. After students become familiar with this app, teachers can have them write texts to be typed and print them out. Next, teachers can put students in pairs and have them each launch a word processing app, such as UX Write, WPS Office, or Office Offline. Teachers can then say go and time students as they type their partner’s passage. Teachers can use the Stopwatch ‰ or Teacher Timer app to time students as they type. After all students have completed their typing, they can swap tablets with their partner, and the partner will grade the typing for accuracy. Teachers can then have students swap partners and repeat the process until proficiency is reached.
